About Pomáz in brief...


Geographically, it is located along the Pomáz-Esztergom fault line, the first range of the Miocene volcanic crown of the Carpathians meets the sedimentary soil cover located south of the Dera-patak valley-Kovácsi valley range that crosses the city. Pomáz has been an inhabited place since ancient times. Traces of Neolithic, Copper and Bronze Age burials were also found, and then the Romans were preceded by Scythian and Celtic inhabitants, who had several villas in the city area. The Longobards and Avars also left their traces here. Its first written mention dates from 1138: Béla Vak mentions in a certificate that the village is the property of the Dömös Abbey. It is clear from a donation letter dated 1277 that IV. King László donated his properties in Pomáz to Princess Elizabeth and the nuns on the island.
